Command Master Chief Johnny J. Stewart is a native of Orlando, Florida.  He enlisted in the United States Navy in February 1999. Upon completion of Basic Training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, he reported to Hospital Corps (HM) “A” School, Great Lakes, Illinois and followed on to graduate from Field Medical Service School, Camp Pendleton, California.

His first operational assignment was as Senior Line Company Corpsman, 1st Marine Division (2nd Battalion/5th Marines, 3rd Battalion/5th Marines, and 1st Marine Regiment) Camp Pendleton, California. He graduated Basic Enlisted Submarine School (BESS) and Submarine Force Independent Duty Corpsman (IDC) “C” School at the Naval Undersea Medical Institute in Groton, Connecticut. His first Independent Duty Corpsman assignment was onboard the USS La Jolla (SSN 701), Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where he was Selected for Chief Petty Officer and served as the Medical Department Representative and Executive Department Leading Chief Petty Officer. He completed follow on submarine tours in Kings Bay, Georgia onboard the USS Wyoming (SSBN 742) and USS Rhode Island (SSBN 740) as Medical Department Representative and Assistant Chief of the Boat. He deployed as Senior Enlisted Leader for the Navy Expeditionary Medical Unit 10 in direct support of Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve in Erbil, Iraq. He has completed multiple Western Pacific/Mediterranean deployments, humanitarian missions, a strategic deterrent patrol, and has served overseas in combat environments.

He has completed shore assignments at Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Rota, Spain as the Administration and Personnel Leading Petty Officer and Emergency Medical Technician, Senior Enlisted Leader and Inspector, Undersea Medicine and Radiation Health Department (M3B3), Senior Enlisted Leader for Wounded Ill, and Injured/Qualifications and Standards Department (M9), Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Washington D.C., Senior Enlisted Leader, Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Portsmouth, Virginia for the Directorate of Surgical Services and Directorate for Warrior Optimization and Warrior Transition Unit.

Command Master Chief Stewart served as Command Senior Enlisted Leader and Lead Command Managed Equal Opportunity (CMEO) Instructor for Navy Service Support Advanced Training Command (NSSATC), Dam Neck, Virginia, and Command Master Chief onboard the USS Hershel “WOODY” Williams (ESB-4) while forward deployed in the AFRICOM and EUCOM AOR. He is currently serving as Command Master Chief for the “Dusty Dogs” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron SEVEN (HSC-7) deployed onboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), with Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 3.

He is a graduate of the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy Class 240 (Purple Team) and CMC/COB Course Class 22-110. He has earned his Enlisted Aviation Warfare, Enlisted Surface Warfare, Enlisted Submarine Warfare, Fleet Marine Force Warfare, and a Combat Action Badge. His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (2 Awards), Army Commendation Medal with Combat “C’ Device (2 Awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5 awards), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and various unit and campaign medals.
