Cmdr. Jeremiah Farwell
A native of Berthoud, Colorado, Cmdr. Jeremiah Farwell graduated from the University of Colorado in 2003, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Farwell was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Program and reported to Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola, FL for flight training in November 2003. He earned his Naval Aviator Wings in June 2005. In August 2005, Farwell reported to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron (HS) 10 “Warhawks” for initial fleet training in the SH-60F and HH-60H. In March 2020, he received his Master of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies degree from the United States Naval War College in Newport, RI.
Farwell began his operational flying in May 2006 with the “Chargers” of HS-14 stationed in Atsugi, Japan. While a “Charger”, he deployed with Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5 aboard USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) and USS George Washington (CVN 73) where he completed three Western Pacific deployments and numerous multi-national exercises.
Following Japan, Farwell reported to the “Fleet Angels” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 2 in June 2009 as an instructor pilot in the MH-60S. During this tour, he completed a detachment for Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief (HA/DR) in Haiti, January 2010. In April 2011 he graduated the Rotary Wing Weapon School in Fallon, NV as a Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI).
Returning to the Fleet, Farwell became the helicopter representative for the staff of CVW-1 in June 2012. While with CVW-1, he deployed aboard USS Enterprise (CVN 65) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, serving as both assistant operations officer and Personnel Recovery (PR) Officer. While assigned to CVW-1, Farwell was selected as an HSC department head.
Farwell reported to the “Nightdippers” of HSC-5 in May 2014 for his department head tour. As a “Nightdipper”, he deployed with CVW-7 aboard USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) as the operations officer in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. While deployed, Farwell helped lead a PR detachment to Erbil, Iraq providing Combat Search and Rescue for U.S. and Coalition forces in Iraq.
After completing his department head tour, Farwell served as the helicopter sea assignments detailer to Navy Personnel Command, PERS-43. At PERS-43, he coordinated orders for junior officers while managing their careers and ensuring the health of Naval Aviation. While attached to PERS-43, Farwell was selected for Commander.
Cmdr. Farwell has accumulated over 3,500 flight hours in 5 aircraft including 34 combat sorties. His awards include the Strike/Flight Air Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (4 awards), and Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards) and various service awards and ribbons.
