Commander Brian Broadwater

Commander Brian Broadwater, a native of Elizabethtown, PA, attended the Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) in Newport, RI and the United States Naval Academy (USNA) in Annapolis, MD where he graduated from USNA in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics.  Upon graduation and commissioning, Broadwater reported to Pensacola, FL for flight training and was designated a Naval Flight Officer in May 2003.  Following completion of initial flight training, he was ordered to Strike Fighter Squadron ONE TWO TWO (VFA-122) in Lemoore, CA for follow-on training as a F/A-18 F Weapon Systems Officer.
 
Commander Broadwater’s aviation operational sea tours include Strike Fighter Squadron ONE FIVE FOUR (VFA-154) in Lemoore, CA; Commander Carrier Air Wing SEVENTEEN (CVW-17) in Virginia Beach, VA; and Strike Fighter Squadron ONE ZERO THREE (VFA-103) in Virginia Beach, VA; making seven deployments embarked on USS CARL VINSON (CVN-70), USS JOHN C STENNIS (CVN-74), and USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN-69) in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM and NEW DAWN.
 
Commander Broadwater’s shore tours include instructor duty as a Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor (SFTI) at Strike Fighter Weapon School Pacific (SFWSP) in Lemoore, CA following graduation from the United States Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN); Master Aviation Plan (MAP) writer at Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic (CNAL) in Norfolk, VA; and as a student at the Naval War College in Newport, RI where he earned a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies with an emphasis on Enterprise Strategic Planning.
 
Following completion at NWC, CDR Broadwater’s next recent assignment was at Strike Fighter Squadron ONE ZERO SIX (VFA-106) in Virginia Beach, VA for F/A-18 refresher training before reporting in April 2019 as Executive Officer of VFA-103.   Commander Broadwater has accumulated more than 2400 flight hours and over 550 traps.  His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Strike Flight Air Medal (3 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (4 awards), Navy Achievement Medal as well as various campaign and service awards.
