Cmdr. Tracy A. Maddox

Cmdr. Maddox, a native of Orangevale, California, graduated from Sacramento State, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She enlisted in the Navy in February 2007, completing the Naval Nuclear Pipeline having achieved the rank of Machinist Mate 3rd Class. She was commissioned through Officer Candidate School in February 2009 and was designated a Naval Flight Officer in September 2010.

Her first sea tour was with the Rangers of Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron (VQ) 2, upon its disestablishment she joined the World Watchers of VQ-1, flying the EP-3E Aires aircraft. She completed three deployments to 5th and 6th Fleet area of responsibility (AOR) supporting Operation New Dawn and Operation Enduring Freedom. While with VQ-1 she qualified as Electronic Warfare Mission Commander, Senior Evaluator Instructor, and Weapons and Tactics Instructor.
 
Her first shore tour was at Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center (NAWDC) in Fallon, Nevada, where she was one of two Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) Subject Matter Experts instructing air wing events and multiple type/model/series Warfare Tactics Instructor (WTI) courses. At NAWDC, she became a plank owner, establishing the Maritime Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (MISR) Weapons School and earning the MISR WTI patch.
 
In January 2017 she became the first MISR Afloat Officer (MISR-A) permanently attached to a carrier strike group. She was assigned to Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 2 in Norfolk, Virginia. She embarked with CSG-2 on the USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) for the 2017, 6th and 5th Fleet deployment responsible for the integration of all ISR assets in theater supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.
 
After CSG-2 she went to the Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Weapons School in Jacksonville, Florida, as the Tactics Department Head where she earned her Master of Arts in Military History from American Military University.
 
In May 2020 she reported to the “Wizards” of Special Projects Patrol Squadron (VPU) 2 for her operational department head tour, flying the P-8 Quick Reaction Capability aircraft.
 
In January 2023 she reported to Navy Personnel Command, PERS-43, to be the VQ Assignments Officer and VQ/Training Squadron (VT)/ Chief of Naval Air Training (CNATRA) Placement Officer.
 
In May 2025, she assumed duties as the VP-8 Executive Officer.
 
She has accumulated over 2,400 flight hours in multiple type/model/series. Her personal decorations include the Air Medal (Strike/Flight) (four awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
