Welcome to Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 79.

Command Vision

The Griffins of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 79 were selected to become the U.S. Navy's first and only Forward Deployed Naval Forces Europe helicopter squadron to do one thing- deliver ship/air capabilities in the EUCOM AOR to deter conflict and win our nation's wars as we maintain a global posture to assure our nation's prosperity. Our freedom and security depend on it.

We accomplish this only through the development of our Griffin maintenance and support professionals, aircrew, and pilots. Our squadron success is dependent on individual dedication and team investment in honing our craft. When the call comes, we will be asked to operate independently for extended periods with only our ship/air team - it pays for each Griffin to be as successful as possible in their professional development and at their best, always.

We only accomplish our mission through the following:

1. Hunger
A personal professional hunger to learn and master your craft. This is a profession, not a job, and it requires an appetite for continuously learning. Furthermore, a professional hunger to teach and enable learning, for those that are responsible for the next Griffin up. Our success depends not only on you, but the success of the next you.

2. Attitude
Willingness to apply the work ethic required for mastery of your profession, accept and properly provide constructive criticism and a professional approach to all interactions, to trust your fellow Griffin and embrace - Every Griffin, Every Day - the right way.

3. Focus
Our rotational and dynamic FDNF-E tasking to inhospitable locations requires our approach in every facet of naval aviation to be - brilliant at the basics. We start with the focus and understanding of what is required for success ashore in Rota in every squadron movement of every day, so that there is no question when at sea. This profession is unforgiving to lapses in focus.

4. Moral Courage
To do what is right because it is the right way - period. To speak up if something seems wrong or unsafe, regardless of rank or situation. As an FDNF-E squadron, we are more susceptible to normalized deviation and we must guard against it at all costs. Deviations of that nature are more dangerous than our adversaries.

5. Dedication
Dedication to making yourself better every single day. One mentoring session, one PQS signoff, or one additional repetition of a grade-sheet item. Dedicate yourself and support others in their dedication.
