Congratulations on your orders to Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron SEVEN NINE! You are about to embark on one of the most exciting and rewarding tours of duty in the United States Navy. The "Griffins" of HSM-79 are homeported at Naval Station Rota, Spain, as the only forward deployed naval aviation squadron in Europe. The Griffins operate the world's premier tactical maritime helicopter, the MH-60R. Our MH-60R detachments deploy aboard the Navy's most advanced warships, flight III/IIA guided-missile destroyers, homeported in Rota. Collectively, we are part of the Forward Deployed Naval Forces-Europe that support U.S. Sixth Fleet tasking and maritime security for our North Atlantic Treaty Organization allies.
