Welcome to the home of the world-famous Pioneers, Air Test and Evaluation Squadron ONE. We are located in beautiful Patuxent River, Maryland. Our mission here at VX-1 is to conduct operationally relevant assessment and evaluations of new aircraft, weapon systems, and tactics in order to accurately characterize them prior to their introduction into the Fleet. Because of the squadron’s unique position as an interfacing unit between the development of new weapon systems and their subsequent introduction into the Fleet, VX-1 is considered the squadron that "does it first."
