Commanding Officer
Cmdr. Travis Pyle
Cmdr. Travis ‘Kenny’ Pyle is a native of Roseburg, Oregon. His father, uncle, and grandfather were all enlisted Sailors. He was fortunate enough to receive a NROTC scholarship to Vanderbilt University where he met his wife. He graduated in 2001 with a dual major in Mathematics and Engineering Science.
Pyle has been east coast all the way, with tours in Airborne Command & Control Squadron (VAW) 124 as a junior officer, an instructor tour at VAW-120 as the E-2 NATOPS pilot model manager, Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 1 as the admin department head and an E-2D operational test and evaluation pilot, VAW-123 as the safety & maintenance officer, and strike operations officer on the USS George H. W. Bush (CVN 77).
His staff tours include a disassociated sea tour at NAVCENT in Bahrain, where he was the dynamic targeting chief for one year while serving in the Air Division of the Future Operations Department. Post operational department head, he served at NATO’s Supreme Allied Command Transformation HQ as the deputy of the security division. Most recently he served nine months at AFCENT’s Combined Air Operations Center in Qatar as the deputy of combat plans division where he was responsible for the daily production of the Air Tasking Order, Airspace Control Order, and Special Instructions (SPINS).
Pyle received his master’s degree in Space Science from the American Military University where he completed his thesis on Anti-Satellite Missile Collateral Damage to Low Earth Orbit US Space Assets.
Pyle has received the usual awards commensurate with his rank and positions held. But more, much more than awards, he cherishes the experiences and people he’s had the privilege of serving with over the years. One truth he’s found time and time again, is that regardless of how arduous the duty, it’s the people you work with that makes all the difference. To all the people he has worked with over the years, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!
