Cmdr. Rob "Jiminy" Spann
Commander Rob “Jiminy” Spann, a native of Navarre, Florida, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering. He completed flight training in Kingsville, Texas, and was “winged” as a Naval Aviator in March 2009.
Spann’s fleet assignments include operational tours with the “Bear Aces” of Command & Control Squadron (VAW) 124, the “Seahawks” of VAW-126, and Flag Lieutenant to Commander, Carrier Strike Group Eight (CSG-8). During these assignments, he flew numerous combat missions in support of Operations New Dawn, Enduring Freedom, and Inherent Resolve, and many international exercises, including Trident Juncture 2018.
Shore duty assignments for Spann include an instructor pilot with the “Greyhawks” of VAW-120 and as the VAW/VRC/VRM Placement Officer at Navy Personnel Command. During his time with the Greyhawks, he served as E-2C and E-2D Flight Instructor, E-2 NATOPS Unit Evaluator, E-2 Crew Resource Management Community Program Manager, and E-2 Carrier Qualification Instructor. He also temporarily deployed with the “Bluetails” of VAW-121 to support a senior pilot deficit as an augment while a VAW-120 instructor.
He has accumulated over 3,000 flight hours in the E-2 and over 250 carrier landings and over 750 catapult launches. His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal and various other personal and unit level awards.
