Command Master Chief
CMDCM (AW/SW) Dean Sonnenberg



Command Master Chief Dean Sonnenberg enlisted through the Delayed Entry Program in June 1996 and completed Aviation Electronics Technician Apprenticeship School in Millington, Tennessee,
 
His sea duty assignments include the “Tridents” of Patrol Squadron (VP) 26 from March 1997 thru March 2003 as the avionics branch supervisor; the “Royal Maces” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 27 from March 2006 thru March 2009 as flight deck coordinator and maintenance control chief, where he was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer in 2009; he was then assigned as an individual augmentee to Joint CREW Composite Squadron 1 from August 2009 thru August 2010 as an electronic warfare officer; the “Valions” of VFA-15 from February 2013 thru  February 2015 serving as the maintenance control senior chief petty officer.  He was advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer in May 2014.
 
His shore assignments include the “Shadows” of Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron 4 Detachment Patuxent River, MD as the operational control center leading petty officer from March 2003 thru March 2006, where he was advanced to Chief Petty Officer in 2005; and the “Gladiators” of VFA-106 serving as the airframes leading chief petty officer, QAS, and senior enlisted advisor (E/F).    
 
His command master chief assignments include the “Dragonwhales” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 28 from March 2015 thru March 2018; the “Gunslingers” of the USS San Jacinto (CG 56) from April 2018 thru February 2021.  In March 2021, he reported as the command master chief of Commander, Helicopter Sea Combat Wing Atlantic where he is currently assigned.  
 
His decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Navy/Marine Corp Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy/Marine Corp Achievement Medal (4 awards), Army Achievement Medal and various campaign and personal awards.
 
He is a graduate of both the Senior Enlisted Academy (RC 171, Khaki), and the CMC/COB course (141).
