Congratulations on your assignment to the “World Famous Nightdippers” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron FIVE located at Naval Station Norfolk, VA.  HSC-5 is a vital member of Carrier Air Wing SEVEN (CVW-7) and the USS George H.W. Bush Strike Group (CSG-10).  We are assigned eight MH-60S helicopters, with approximately 30 officers and 180 enlisted sailors.  Our missions include Combat Search and Rescue, Naval Special Warfare, Anti-Surface Warfare, Logistics, and Vertical Replenishment.  You are about to join the BEST Armed Helo squadron in the Navy!  We assure you that your duty here will be both challenging and rewarding.

 Every Sailor reporting to HSC-5 is assigned a sponsor by the Command's Sponsor Coordinator.  Your sponsor will be the direct link to information about the command and the Norfolk area and is charged with assisting you in your transition here to HSC-5, whether deployed or ashore.  Newly reporting personnel are reminded to provide their sponsor with information such as travel arrangements and contact information.  If you have received orders to the command, but have not been assigned a sponsor, please contact our Command Sponsor Coordinator, at

Arriving by Car:

 The best way to ensure you have accurate driving directions is to consult with Google Maps or another mapping web site for specific directions to our hangar, SP-40. Specific gates are closed after working hours or on weekends. Your best option is to enter through gate 3A/3, which is open 24 hours a day. From I-64W, take exit 276C to I-564W. Continue on I-564W and exit toward Naval Station Gate 3A/3. Enter the Naval Station and continue straight on Bainbridge Ave. Turn right onto Gilbert Street and follow to CV Towway Drive. Turn right and follow to Bainbridge Ave. Turn left and follow to 5th Avenue. Turn left and continue to A Street. Turn right and HSC-5’s hangar, SP-40 will be on your left.

 

 Arriving by Plane:

 Norfolk International Airport has numerous methods of transportation. You will find a Navy representative on duty in the central lobby area of the airport at the Visitor/Military Information Desk. The booth is manned from 0730 to 2200 hours, seven days a week. The uniformed military personnel have information about all bases in the Hampton Roads area, along with transportation, duty office telephone numbers, and emergency assistance numbers. The telephone number for the Navy representative on duty at the Military Information Desk is (757) 444-3040. We recommend you contact your sponsor at least 24hrs in advance prior to arrival to help coordinate lodging and transportation arrangements.
