Executive Officer

A native of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Cmdr. Yager graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2009, earning a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering. He was commissioned through the Navy Officer Candidate School and reported to Naval Air Sation (NAS) Pensacola, Florida, to assume the Student Naval Flight Officer pipeline.  Upon completion of Student Naval Flight Officer training, he reported to Patrol and Reconnaissance Squadron (VP) 30, the fleet replacement squadron (FRS) for P-3C Orion aircraft, where he was designated as a Naval Flight Officer in 2011.

Following instruction at the P-3C Orion aircraft FRS, Yager was assigned to the “Mad Foxes” of VP-5, homeported in NAS Jacksonville, Florida, in January 2012.  During two deployments to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations and the transition to the P-8A Poseidon aircraft, Yager qualified as Tactical Coordinator (TACCO), Mission Commander, and Instructor TACCO.

Yager transferred to the “Pro’s Nest” of VP-30 at NAS Jacksonville, Florida, in April 2015 qualifying as FRS Instructor TACCO and Fleet Instructor Under Training Instructor.  While assigned to VP-30, he served as Command Security Manager, Schedules Officer, and Student Control Department Head.

After a successful tour at the VP-30, Yager transferred to USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) in Norfolk, Virgina, in October 2017. He served as Operations Admin Officer, as well as qualifying Officer of the Deck Underway.

Yager completed one year of in-residence education at the Naval War College, where he was part of the Russian Maritime Studies Institute (Holloway Group) and earning a Master of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies.

Upon his selection for Department Head, Yager reported to the “Golden Eagles” of VP-9 in Whidbey Island, Washington, in April 2021. Department Head jobs included Tactics Officer, Administration Officer, and Maintenance Officer. 

Following his Department Head tour, Yager reported to U.S. Norther Command (USNORTHCOM) staff, J3 USNORTHCOM Operations Directorate, as an action officer for Homeland Defense and DOD Support to Civil Authorities. He was selected for squadron command in March 2025.

Yager now serves as the Executive Officer for Tactical Operations Control Squadron (TOCRON) 11 as of February 2026.

He is the recipient of the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various other service and campaign awards.
