Command SENIOR Chief

CMDCS Randy Johnson Jr.



CMDCS BryantCommand Senior Chief Randy J. Johnson Jr., a native of Overland Park, Kansas, enlisted in the United States Navy in July 2006 and reported to Recruit Training Command (RTC), Great Lakes, Illinois.

Following basic training, he attended Aviation Electronics Technician “A” School in Pensacola, Florida, where he received instruction in basic aviation theory and aviation electrical systems. Upon completion, he reported to Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, for calibration
“C” School, where he received advanced training in the calibration of electronic and mechanical equipment.

His first operational tour was aboard USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), where he completed a combat deployment in support of Operation Enduring Iraqi Freedom and participated in the 2008 Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise. In September 2010, he reported to Southwest Regional
Calibration Center on Naval Air Station North Island, Coronado, California, where he served as a calibration production supervisor and quality assurance representative.

In 2014, reported aboard USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) in Bremerton, Washington, where he completed two combat deployments in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. While assigned to the Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department (AIMD), he served as Calibration Laboratory Leading Petty Officer, Quality Assurance Leading Petty Officer and Departmental Career Counselor. His sustained superior performance led to his selection as a Chief Petty Officer in 2018, after which he served as a Branch Leading Chief Petty Officer.

Following his tour aboard Stennis, he reported to Fleet Air Western Pacific AIMD Guam, in September 2019. There, he served as Maintenance Material Control Officer, Quality Assurance
Officer, Assistant Maintenance Officer and Command Senior Enlisted Leader. His performance in these roles led to his selection to Senior Chief Petty Officer in 2022.

In January 2023, he joined the “Fighting Swordsmen” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 32, where he completed a combat deployment in the Red Sea aboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower
(CVN 69). During this tour, he served as Quality Assurance Supervisor, Avionics Division Leading Chief Petty Officer and Interim Command Senior Enlisted Leader.

In November 2024, he transferred to the “Golden Warriors” of VFA-87 to fill a critical gapped billet during the squadron’s deployment workup cycle. In March 2025, he was selected for the Command Senior Chief program and attended the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat course in July 2025.

Johnson now serves as the Command Senior Chief of Strike Fighter Weapons School Atlantic.

Johnson holds a bachelor’s degree in electronic systems technologies from Southern Illinois University. He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 265, Orange) and the
CMC/COB course (Class 25100).

His personal decorations include Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals (four awards), and various unit awards. He is
qualified as an Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist and Surface Warfare Specialist.
