CMDCM (AW/SW/IW) James R. Werner



Command Master Chief (CMDCM) Werner, a native of Stillwater, New Jersey, enlisted in the United States Navy in February of 1996.  Following completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, he reported to Naval Air Technical Training Center (NATTC) Pensacola, Florida, where he completed Air Traffic Control “A” School.
 
His first duty station was the USS George Washington (CVN 73) stationed out of Norfolk, Virginia, where he served as an air operations supervisor and advanced to Petty Officer 3rd Class.  In September 1999, he transferred to Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility Virginia Capes in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he served as a facility watch supervisor and promoted to Petty Officer 2nd Class. In August 2004, he reported to NATTC Pensacola, Florida, where he completed Air Traffic Control “C” School and reported to the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) assigned as a CATCC supervisor and advanced to Petty Officer 1st Class. In November of 2007, he reported to Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida. In September 2008 he was pinned to the rank of Chief Petty Officer and was assigned as the training chief and radar branch chief while stationed at Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola. In October of 2011, he reported aboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) as the leading chief petty officer (LCPO) and CATCC supervisor of OC division and also qualifying as the AIROPS watch officer.  After promoting to Senior Chief Petty Officer, he became the operations department leading chief petty officer (DLCPO).  In June of 2015, he reported to the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) and became the security DLCPO for 18 months. After being selected to Master Chief Petty Officer in 2017 he took over as the operations DLCPO and continued his duties CATCC supervisor, CATCC watch officer and AIROPS watch officer. In November of 2019, he reported to NAS Key West, Flordia, where served as the operations DLCPO. In March of 2020, he was selected for the Command Master Chief program, completed Command Leadership School and reported to USS Ramage (DDG 61) in June 2020.  Upon completion of his tour, in May of 2022 he transferred to USS James E. Williams (DDG 95) and deployed to 6th Fleet as the NATO Flagship.  In July of 2023, he arrived at Fleet Readiness Center Mid-Atlantic, Oceana, Virginia.
 
Werner has completed numerous deployments to 5th and 6th Fleets.  In September of 2016, he graduated from the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 200).  His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2 Awards), Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 Awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5 awards), Navy and Marine Corps volunteer service medal (2 awards) and various unit and campaign awards.
