Welcome Aboard!

Congratulations on your orders to Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 74, the "World Famous Swamp Foxes."  Our mission is "To prepare and be ready to deploy combat-capable MH-60R aircraft and personnel that can FIGHT and WIN at sea."

You are joining a warfighting team of nearly 330 Sailors ready to go to sea as part of Carrier Airwing (CVW) 3 and Carrier Strike Group 2.  In this squadron, each of our contributions are important and valued for mission accomplishment.  Our mandate is to prepare our Sailors, our equipment, and ourselves to fight and win at sea.  We value qualifications, mentorship, by the book maintenance, experience, unity, and operational flexibility.  We also love to recognize people's hard work and believe in creating a family like atmosphere.

Please immediately log on to HTTPS://NSIPS.NMCI.NAVY.MIL and fill out the gain questionnaire located under the electronic service record tasks tab. You can also view further information on our mission, points of contact, links to local resources, and directions to the squadron on our webpage at www.hsm74.navy.mil. Our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/HSM74, is also a good entry point.

Please keep us informed of any change in your plans or special needs, such as dependents enrolled in the Exceptional Family Member program, so we can provide additional resources. Additionally, we have a very strong Family Readiness Group that can provide your family with the support they might need while you are away. Our Ombudsman, Mrs. Adrienne Castillo, is another great resource for your family. She can be reached at ombuds.swampfox@gmail.com.

I trust your sponsor will be able to answer most of your questions.  I believe you will enjoy your experience here and find this squadron to be both challenging and rewarding.   I can't wait to have you on my team! Let me know if I can help in any way.  Be Resilient, Support the Swamp, Leave Your Legacy!

Sincerely,

  C.S. HERDT,
  Commander, U.S. Navy
  Commanding Officer
