Capt. David A. Bizzarri
Capt. David Bizzarri is a native of Fairfax, Virginia, and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2001 where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He holds a Master of Science in Business Administration from the University of Florida, and is a graduate of the Air Command and Staff College (non-resident program).
He served in a variety of training and operational squadrons including Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light (HSL) 42, HSL-40, Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 70, HSM-46 where he served as executive and commanding officer from August 2018 until January 2021, and HSM-40 where he served as commanding officer from August 2022 until July 2023.
His sea assignments include deployments aboard USS Normandy (CG 60), USS Bulkeley (DDG 84), USS Nassau (LHA 4), and USS George H. W. Bush (CVN 77). He has served as detachment maintenance officer, squadron quality assurance officer, squadron safety officer, squadron training officer, squadron operations officer, and squadron maintenance officer. As a crewmember of the USS Nassau, he served as the V-3 division officer, aircraft handling officer, assistant air officer, and safety officer. While aboard, he earned his officer of the deck underway qualification.
Assignments to shore and staff billets include, flag aide to Commander, Naval Region Mid-Atlantic, action officer on the Joint Staff, J-35, Joint Operations Directorate, Global Force Management, and Helo commander assignments officer, head placement officer, and deputy director of the aviation officer distribution division, PERS-43, Navy Personnel Command.
Capt. Bizzarri reported to Commander, Helicopter Maritime Strike Wing Atlantic to assume the duties of deputy commander in August 2023.
His military decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Air Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
