Cmdr. Brian "Lost" Crosby


Cmdr. Brian “Lost” Crosby enlisted into the Navy in September of 2000, from his hometown of South Portland, Maine.  Upon completion of recruit training in Great Lakes, Illinois, he reported to Goose Creek, South Carolina, for Machinist Mate “A” School.  During his training, he was selected to attend the U.S. Naval Academy Prep School and received a follow-on appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy. Graduating in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Oceanography, he reported for flight training in Pensacola, Florida, earning his “wings of gold” in November of 2007.  His follow on assignment was to Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 41 where he qualified in the MH-60R.
 
His first operational tour was as a plank owner with the “Spartans” of HSM-70 from 2009 to 2012. His duties included ARO division officer, legal officer, detachment 1 and 2 operations officer, and NATOPS officer. After HSM-70’s maiden deployment with Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 8 and the USS George H. W. Bush (CVN 77) strike group, Crosby was selected to attend the SEAWOLF training course with follow-on orders to the Helicopter Maritime Strike Weapon School. He also served operational tours as the training officer for HSM-74 (2015-2016) with CVW-3 and the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) strike group and as detachment officer in charge, operations officer, and maintenance officer for HSM-46 (2016-2019) in support of CVW-7 and the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) strike group.
 
Ashore, Crosby served as the NATOPS officer, schedules officer, and operations officer at the Helicopter Maritime Strike Weapons School. His most recent tour was spent in Millington, Tennessee, as the helicopter initial shore detailer, graduate education detailer, and as the executive assistant for PERS-4 at Naval Personnel Command.
 
Crosby is JPME Phase I qualified and has a Master of Military Art and Operational Science with a concentration in Joint Warfare from Air University. His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Association Leadership Award, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), as well as various other unit and campaign awards.  He has accumulated over 2,700 hours in naval aircraft.
