Cmdr. Patrick Blind
Cmdr. Patrick Blind is a native of Virginia Beach, Virginia. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy as a member of the Class of 2003 with Bachelor of Science in History. In 2014 he received his MBA from the Naval Postgraduate School.
Blind earned his “Wings of Gold” in 2004 and served his first sea tour flying the SH-60B as part of the Forward Deployed Naval Forces (FDNF) with the “Warlords” of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light (HSL) 51 in Atsugi, Japan. During that time, he deployed aboard USS Cowpens (CG 63), USS Shiloh (CG 67), and USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) in support of battle force 7th Fleet.
After a successful tour, he transferred to the “Airwolves” of HSL-40 to serve as an instructor pilot for the SH-60B, a Commander Naval Air Forces Atlantic (CNAL) search and rescue evaluator, and quality assurance officer (QAO). During this time the squadron transitioned to Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 40 and became the East Coast MH-60R Fleet Replacement Squadron.
Blind transferred to USS New York (LPD 21) homeported in Norfolk, Virginia, in late 2011. Serving first as fuels officer/mini boss and later as air boss, he led the air department on her maiden deployment to the 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility in support of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU).
In 2015 Blind returned to the FDNF for his department head tour with the “Saberhawks” of HSM-77, part of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5. Serving as the officer in charge (OIC) for Combat Element (CEL) 1, he embarked USS Antietam (CG 54) and USS Chancellorsville (CG 62). Returning to the squadron onboard USS George Washington (CVN 73) and USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) he served as both squadron maintenance officer and operations officer.
Blind most recently served at United State Cyber Command in the J7, Training and Exercises directorate.
Blind reported to HSM-72, the “Proud Warriors” in November of 2020 to serve as executive officer prior to assuming command in January of 2022.
