Cmdr. John David Inman
Cmdr. John Inman, a native of Chapin, South Carolina, is a 2007 graduate of the United States Naval Academy where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in History.
He was designated a Naval Flight Officer (NFO) in 2008 and completed fleet replacement training with Patrol and Reconnaissance Squadron (VP) 30 in April 2009. In 2012 he fulfilled his lifelong dream and accepted the NFO-to-Pilot transition. He reported to Corpus Christi, Texas for training as a Student Naval Aviator. Upon receiving his Wings of Gold for the second time, he completed training at VP-30 in the P-8A Poseidon aircraft in June 2014.
His operational tours include with the “Golden Swordsmen'' of VP-47 in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii where he served as NFO Naval Air Training and Operating Procedures Standardization officer, the “Pelicans” of VP-45 in Jacksonville, FL, where he served as QAO and Pilot NATOPS officer and the VP-8 “Tigers” also of Jacksonville for his department head tour where he served as the Maintenance Officer.
Inman has completed deployments to the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th Fleets in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom, Unified Protector, Enduring Freedom, theater security operations and Anti-Piracy Operations off the Horn of Africa. His shore assignments include a tour with VP-30 as a Fleet Replacement Squadron Instructor Pilot and P-8 Poseidon aircraft Training Director and a tour with the Joint Staff at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia where he served as action officer and team lead for Deputy Director for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Operations (J-32). He reported to Special Projects Patrol Squadron (VPU) 2 as Executive Officer in May 2024.
He has amassed over 3000 flight hours in the P-3C Orion and P-8A Poseidon aircrafts. He is most proud of the numerous unit awards that reflect credit on the teams he served with and the skilled professionals he was privileged to serve alongside.
