Cmdr. Tyler C. McQuiggan

Cmdr. Tyler C. McQuiggan, a native of Manchester, Missouri, graduated from the University of Colorado-Boulder with a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering and was commissioned through the Naval ROTC program in 2005. He completed flight training in Corpus Christi, Texas and Meridian, Mississippi and was “winged” as a Naval Aviator in 2008.
He completed initial F/A-18E/F training with Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 106 in Virginia Beach, Virginia and joined VFA-211. In both 2011 and 2012, McQuiggan deployed with the “Checkmates” aboard USS Enterprise (CVN 65) in support of Operations New Dawn and Enduring Freedom.
In 2012, he was selected to attend the U.S. Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN), graduating in December 2012. After graduation, he reported to VFA-122 in Lemoore, California. At VFA-122, he served as fleet replacement squadron instructor and Basic Fighter Maneuvering and Fighter Weapons Phase Heads.
In July 2015, McQuiggan reported to the “Fighting Redcocks” of VFA-22 as the pilot training officer. In December 2016, he joined the “Bounty Hunters” of VFA-2 as a department head. He served as admin officer, operations officer, and maintenance officer during two Western Pacific deployments aboard USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) in 2017 and 2018.
In October 2019, he reported to the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island and in November 2020 earned a Masters of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies.
McQuiggan has accumulated more than 2,500 flight hours and 600 carrier landings. His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Strike/Flight medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), and various campaign, unit, and service awards.
