CDR Doug Morea
CDR Doug Morea was born and raised in Port Washington, NY and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in aerospace engineering. After being designated as a naval aviator in July 2006, CDR Morea reported to the “Gladiators” of Strike Fighter Squadron ONE ZERO SIX (VFA-106) for initial flight training in the F/A-18 Hornet.
In July 2007, CDR Morea reported to the “Golden Warriors” of VFA-87 for his Junior Officer tour. After completing a full workup cycle, he deployed on the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. He then made his way to Fallon, NV and successfully graduated from the Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) in September 2010. CDR Morea remained in Fallon as a TOPGUN instructor, where he earned a SFWT Level V qualification, became the Navy’s Threat Pilot and Tactics subject matter expert, and was peer-selected as the standardization officer. Following his TOPGUN instructor tour, CDR Morea reported to the “Valions” of VFA-15 in August 2013 as training officer. During this tour, he completed a full workup cycle with the Carrier Air Wing EIGHT and USS GEORGE H. W. BUSH team. This culminated in a combat deployment in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and INHERENT RESOLVE.
CDR Morea then reported to the VFA-81 “Sunliners” in October 2015 as a department head, where he deployed aboard the USS HARRY S TRUMAN in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE. As a department head, he held all key leadership positions and was the recipient of the 2018 Commander, Strike Fighter Wing Atlantic Michael Longardt Leadership Award and the 2018 Carrier Air Wing ONE Department Head of the Year Award. In June 2018, CDR Morea reported to Navy Personnel Command in Millington, TN where he served as VFA East Placement Officer. Within the PERS-43 division, he was responsible for managing over 850 personnel billets across 28 active duty commands. In March 2019, CDR Morea was selected for aviation command, which was soon followed by a return to VFA-106 for requalification training in the F/A-18 Super Hornet. He joined the “Blue Blasters” of VFA-34 as executive officer in March 2021 and assumed command of the squadron in April 2022.
CDR Morea has accumulated over 3,400 flight hours in the F/A-18, F-16, T-45, and T-34, and has over 600 aircraft carrier arrested landings. His personal awards include the Strike/Flight Air Medal (four awards), Navy Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit and campaign awards.
