Command Master Chief
CMDCM (AW/SW) Tangela L. Holmes
Command Master Chief Holmes, a proud native of Oxford, Mississippi, graduated from Oxford High School in May 2001 and enlisted in the United States Navy in August of the same year. Following completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, she reported to Seamen Apprenticeship Training, Chicago, Illinois, as an undesignated Seaman.
Upon the completion of Seamen Apprenticeship Training, she reported to her first duty station aboard USS Hue City (CG 66) Mayport, Florida, in November 2001 where she worked as an undesignated Seaman in the operations department. Soon after, she struck Storekeeper and was advanced to Petty Officer 3rd Class.
In March 2004, Holmes reported to Patrol Squadron (VP) 5 as the government purchase card holder and while aboard, she was promoted to Petty Officer 2nd Class and earned her Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist qualification.
In March 2008, she reported to Aviation Support Detachment Jacksonville, Florida, and served as the leading petty officer. During this tour she advanced to Petty Officer 1st Class.
In November 2012, Holmes reported to USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54), a forward-deployed, ballistic missile destroyer in Yokosuka, Japan, serving as the supply department leading chief petty officer. She was advanced to Chief Petty Officer and earned her Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist qualification.
In November 2015, she reported to NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center, where she was subsequently promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer in June 2016. She served as the logistics support team readiness leading chief petty officer for five littoral combat ships, and in October of the same year, she reported to Afloat Training Group San Diego, where she served as the leading chief petty officer for readiness division. During this tour, she earned both her Master Training Specialist (MTS) and Afloat Training Specialist (ATS) certifications.
Holmes then reported to USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) November 2019, where she served as the S-8, readiness, and supply department leading chief petty officer, promoted to Master Chief Petty Officer in September 2020, and was selected into the Command Master Chief Program in the spring of 2023.
Holmes then reported to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 81, during the summer of 2023 for her first tour as a Command Master Chief.
Holmes is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy, and her personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Four); Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Seven); Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and various unit and campaign awards.
