Cmdr. Brian C. Jones


CDR Brian Jones A native of Tucson, Arizona, Cmdr. Brian Jones graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. After commissioning, he reported to Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola, Florida for his initial flight training in June 2007. He reported to the “Boomers” of Training Squadron (VT) 27 in Corpus Christi, Texas, for his primary training, ultimately earning his “Winds of Gold” with the “Redhawks” of VT-21 in Kingsville, Texas, November 2009.   
 
After completing initial fleet training at the Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS), Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 122 in Lemoore, California, he reported to the “Pukin’ Dogs” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 143 as an F/A-18E pilot in Virginia Beach, Virginia. At VFA-143, he completed two combat deployments as part of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 7 aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. 
 
In February 2014, he reported back to VFA-122 as an instructor pilot, until May of 2016. From there, reported to the staff of CVW-17 in Lemoore as a CVW Landing Signals Officer (LSO), “CAG Paddles.” While assigned to CVW-17 staff, he completed a combat deployment aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) in support of Operation Inherent Resolve in Syria and Iraq and Operation Enduring Freedom. 
 
In October 2018, he reported to his department hear tour with the “Gunslingers” of VFA-105 in Virginia Beach flying the F/A-18E. He served as the administrative, safety, maintenance, and operations department head while completing two combat deployments as part of CVW-3 aboard the USS Dwight D Eisenhower (CVN-69) in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel in Afghanistan.  
 
In December 2021, he reported to the staff of Commander, United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) Washington Operations office at the Pentagon, and served as the Air, Maritime, and Global Force Management Operations officer. In January 2022, he was promoted to the rank of commander. Following this tour, he reported to VFA-106 for re-qualification and assumed the duties of VFA-81 executive officer in November 2024. 
 
Cmdr. Jones has accumulated more than 2,500 flight hours and over 650 carrier arrested landings. He has received various personal, unit, and campaign awards, all a testament to the exceptional officers and Sailors with whom he has served.
