Cmdr. Mary Robinson


A native of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Cmdr. Mary Robinson attended the United States Naval Academy and graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Ocean Engineering. Robinson entered aviation pipeline training and received her wings of gold in July of 2007 upon completion of advanced helicopter training at Naval Air Station (NAS) Whiting Field, Milton, Florida.

Robinson’s first operational assignment was with the “Warlords” of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light (HSL) 51 located in Atsugi, Japan. During this tour, she completed twelve underway periods across 7th Fleet. While assigned to HSL-51 she served on USS Lassen (DDG 82), USS McCampbell (DDG 85), and USS Shiloh (CG 67).  Ashore she served as the squadron’s quality assurance officer.

Robinson graduated from the Seahawk Weapons and Tactics Instructor (SWTI) course in April of 2012. Upon completion of the SWTI course she transferred to HSM Weapons School Pacific in San Diego, California where she ran the Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and Standardization programs.  

In October of 2014 Robinson reported to the “Magicians” of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 35 in San Diego, California to serve as the squadron SWTI.  Robinson qualified on the MQ-8B FireScout in May of 2015. During this tour, Robinson assisted FireScout's integration with the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) class. In 2015. Robinson was selected as HSM-35's Tactician of the Year. 

Following graduation from Naval Aviation Safety School, Robinson reported to HSM-71 at NAS North Island for her department head tour in October of 2018. Robinson served as the squadron's safety officer and maintenance officer through the Optimized Fleet Readiness Plan with the USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) Carrier Strike Group (CSG) in preparation for their around the world deployment.

Following her department head tour, Robinson returned to HSM Weapons School Pacific to serve as the training officer. In January of 2020, Robinson was selected to attend the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, where she graduated from the College of Naval Warfare with a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies.

Robinson has accumulated over 2,000 flight hours in the MH-60R, SH-60B, MH-60S, TH-57, and MQ-8B helicopters. Her awards include the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Humanitarian Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation and Achievement Medals in addition to other unit awards and ribbons.
