Command Master Chief
CMDCM (AW/SW) Dawn Turner
Command Master Chief Dawn Turner is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. She enlisted in the United States Navy in May of 2000 and attended Fireman Apprenticeship Training at Service School Command Great Lakes, Illinois. She has an Associate in Arts Degree in Applied Marine Biology and a Bachelors of Arts in General Studies.
Her sea duty assignments include USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) where she was assigned to the Main Propulsion Division, served as an Engineering Training Team member, and advanced to Petty Officer Third Class. She reported to USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) in 2004, and was assigned to the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration shop and served as the Work Center Supervisor. There she earned her Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist designations and advanced to the rank of Second Class Petty Officer. In 2006 she reported to Pre-Commissioning Unit George H. W. Bush (CVN 77). She served as the Leading Petty Officer (LPO) for multiple Auxiliary Divisions work centers and served as Charlie Section Watch Commander in Security Division. Onboard CVN 77 she advanced to First Class Petty Officer. She reported to USS George Washington (CVN 73) in April of 2017. She was the Leading Chief Petty Officer (LCPO) for One Main Machinery Room, multiple Reactor Department work centers, and served as the Divisional LCPO for Centralized Work Controls Center. There she was selected to the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer, making her the only female Senior Chief onboard, and 1 of 3 female MMCS in the Navy.
Her tours ashore include South Intermediate Maintenance Activity Ingleside, Texas, Instructor duty at Training Support Center (TSC), Great Lakes, Illinois. While at TSC she earned her Master Training Specialist Certification, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, 2012 Sailor of the Year and Naval Education and Training Command finalist. In 2013 she was selected for Chief Petty Officer. February 2014, she reported to Surface Warfare Officer School (SWOS) Enlisted Learning Site Norfolk, where she served as a Course Manager for multiple engineering courses taught globally. She attended the Senior Enlisted Academy and was selected as an Honor graduate for class 203, Purple People Leaders. Master Chief Turner reported to Naval Leadership and Ethics Center, Dam Neck, Virginia, in November of 2020 where she served as a Master Training Instructor for Enlisted Leader Development Courses and was selected for the Command Senior Enlisted Leader program. She is a CMC/COB school class 21100 graduate. In April 2022 she reported for duty as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader at Beachmaster Unit (BMU) 2.
Command Master Chief Turner currently serves as the Command Master Chief of Airborne Command and Control Squadron (VAW) 123, World Famous Screwtops.
Her personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (4), Navy Achievement Medal (4), Good Conduct Medal (8), Flag Letters of Commendation (2), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and numerous unit and campaign awards.
