Command Master Chief
CMDCM  (AW/SW)  Vernon Milligan


Command Master Chief Vernon Milligan is a native of Florida and a 1991 graduate of Evans High School in Orlando, Florida.  He enlisted in United States Navy in July 1991 and attended basic and apprenticeship training in Orlando.
 
In 1991, he reported to his first duty station, Navy Resale Activity, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba where he was designated as Ships Serviceman.  After graduating SH "A" school in 1993, he transferred to USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) homeported in Norfolk, Virginia.  Aboard CVN-74, he qualified as retail operation manager, Enlisted Surface Warfare, and Enlisted Air Warfare.
 
In 1998, he reported for recruiting duty in Miami, Florida where he served as recruiter in charge.
 
During Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, Milligan supported the operations with back-to-back tours aboard USS Elliot (DD 967) and USS Fletcher (DD 992), where he decommissioned both ships.  He also served aboard USS Peleliu (LHA 5) where his division was awarded the Ship Store Excellence Award and Best of Class Award.
 
Milligan reported to USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) in 2006 where he reached the rank of Chief Petty Officer and served as leading chief petty officer (LCPO) until the ship’s decommissioning in 2009.
 
Ashore, Milligan served as LCPO with Navy Recruiting District, Jacksonville and Afloat Training Group, Norfolk where he earned his Master Training Specialist designation, Afloat Training Specialist, and Trainer of the Year award. He was promoted to Master Chief Petty Officer and was subsequently selected to the Command Master Chief Program.
 
Command Master Chief tours include: USS James E. Williams (DDG 95); Staff Command Master Chief of Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe; Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Africa; and Commander, U.S. Sixth Fleet.
 
He is a graduate of the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 151 Green) and Command Leadership School, Newport Rhode Island (Class 16090).  Milligan holds an Associate's degree from Excelsior University and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Trident University.
 
Command Master Chief Milligan’s awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (10), and various unit and campaign awards.
