Commanding Officer

Cmdr. Thomas J. Browning

Cmdr. Thomas J. Browning, a native of Peckville, PA, graduated from Dickinson College in 2003 with a B.A. in Political Science. He commissioned through Officer Candidate School in October 2003 and subsequently began aviation training as a student naval flight officer in Training Squadron (VT) 4. He was selected for E-2 Hawkeyes, earned his “Wings of Gold”, and finished advanced training at Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 120, at Naval Station (NS) Norfolk.
His operational assignments include flying with VAW-124, aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71); Air Defense/C4ISR Officer on Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 8 staff; flag aide to the Commander, Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 2, both aboard USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77); and flying with VAW-123 aboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) serving as the squadron’s safety officer and operations officer. He has made several deployments in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, New Dawn, and Inherent Resolve. 
Ashore, Browning’s duties were as an instructor, flying the E-2 Hawkeye at VAW-120. He also served as a politico-military affairs officer assigned to the Joint Staff (J5 – Western Hemisphere/Homeland Division).  He is a graduate of the Hawkeye Advanced Mission Commander’s Course, Naval School of Aviation Safety, and the Naval War College, Newport, RI, where he earned a Master of Arts Degree in Defense & Strategic Studies.
