Cmdr. Mike Frisby
A native of Los Angeles, California, Cmdr. Mike Frisby is a 2003 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Systems Engineering. He also earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the Naval Postgraduate School in 2011.
Frisby earned his "Wings of Gold" as a naval aviator in April 2005 and was assigned to the “Night Dippers” of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron (HS) 5, in Jacksonville, Florida. He flew the SH-60F/H Seahawk and deployed in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Enduring Freedom (OEF) onboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69).
Following his first sea duty tour, Frisby graduated from the Seahawk Weapons and Tactics Instructor course (SWTI) and served as a weapons and tactics Instructor at the Helicopter Sea Combat Weapons School, (HSCWS) Pacific.
Back to sea duty, Frisby flew and served on the staff for Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 17 where he deployed in support of combat Operations New Dawn and OEF onboard the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70).
For his department head tour, Frisby reported to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 6, the “Screaming Indians," in 2015. During his time at HSC-6 he deployed as a detachment officer in charge (OIC) for the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise onboard the USNS Washington Chambers (T-AKE 11) and onboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) in support of OEF and Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR).
Following his department head tour, Frisby served a joint tour as the J7 deterrence staff officer for NATO Allied Joint Forces Command, Brunssum, The Netherlands, focusing on the coordination of NATO training activities occurring along NATO’s eastern border.
He became the commanding officer of HSCWS Atlantic in May 2022.
Frisby has accumulated over 2,600 flight hours. Personal military decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medals, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit and campaign awards.
