CMDCM Stephanie D. Canteen
Command Master Chief Stephanie D. Canteen “Cocoa” is a native of the Bronx, New York; she joined the Navy in March 1995 in Georgetown, South Carolina. After completion of Recruit Training Command, she attended Culinary ‘A’ School at Naval Training Center San Diego, where she graduated at the top of her class with accelerated Third Class Petty Officer Advancement.
Master Chief Canteen’s first tour was with NSGA Winter Harbor Maine, where she donned the Third Class Petty Officer promotion and served as Galley Watch Captain and Barracks Petty Officer from 1995 to 1997. After a short tour, she received orders to NAS Jacksonville at Patrol Squadron Four Five (VP-45). She quickly qualified her Aviation Warfare pin and promoted to Second Class Petty Officer. She completed a four year tour with VP-45 from 1997-2001. Master Chief Canteen then transferred to Combined Bachelor Quarters Jacksonville as Building Manager from 2001 to 2005. Following this tour, Master Chief Canteen received her first sea tour onboard USS KEARSARGE (LHD 3) at Naval Station Norfolk in 2005 where she completed a four year tour from 2005-2009. In her first year there, she qualified her Surface Warfare pin, made numerous deployments and surges and advanced to First Class Petty Officer. She served as the Leading Petty Officer for all Food Service areas.
In October of 2009, she reported to NAS Jacksonville Pre-Trial Confinement and completed a 3 year tour from 2009-2012 and was promoted to Chief Petty Officer. She served as Brig Guard, Brig Counselor and Operations Officer. In 2012, she reported to the USS WHIDBEY ISLAND (LSD 41) in Norfolk, Virginia where she completed a 3 year tour from 2012-2015. She served as the DLCPO/LCS. During this tour she was promoted to Senior Chief Petty officer. She attended the Senior Enlisted Academy (SEA) in April 2012 and graduated class #186 (Gold) six week legacy class of the SEA. Master Chief Canteen attended Instructor School in Virginia Beach, Virginia at Dam Neck base in route to Afloat Training Group (ATG), Mayport, Florida. At ATG Mayport, she completed a 3 year tour from 2015-2018. Her position included Culinary Specialist Training Team Lead and DLCPO. She quickly qualified Afloat Training Specialist (ATS), Master Training Specialist (MTS) and completed her AA Degree in Supervision and Management. During her tour at ATG, she was promoted to Master Chief Petty Officer. In February 2019, Master Chief Canteen reported onboard USS HARRY S TRUMAN (CVN 75) and served as the Food Service Department Leading CS. In March 2019, Master Chief Canteen was selected into the Command Master Chief Program. Onboard HARRY S TRUMAN, she completed at sea events, COMPTUEX and deployed in November, 2019. In January 2020 she attended the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat course and is currently serving as the Command Master Chief of the world famous Strike Fighter Squadron ONE ZERO THREE (VFA-103) “Jolly Rogers,” at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
