Cmdr. Carolyn Peterson

Cmdr. Carolyn Peterson, a native of Nashville, Tennessee, graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace.  In 2004, she commissioned as an Ensign, reported to Pensacola, Florida for flight training, and earned her "Wings of Gold" in 2006.

In 2007, Peterson reported to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light (HSL) 44 “Swamp Foxes,” where she made two deployments to include operations in the Arabian Gulf onboard USS Monterey (CG 61) and in the Baltic Sea onboard USS Simpson (FFG 51). While in HSL-44, she served as the aviation safety officer, detachment maintenance officer, and squadron quality assurance officer.

After HSL-44, she reported to Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 40 “Airwolves” in 2010 as an SH-60B instructor pilot.  During her tour, she served as the Commander, Naval Air Forces SH-60B Naval Air Training Operating and Procedures Standardization (NATOPS) model manager.

In 2013, Peterson served as the helicopter initial shore assignments officer and graduate education officer at Navy Personnel Command in Millington, Tennessee.  On this tour, she earned her Masters of Science in Aeronautics: Safety Systems.

In 2016, she returned to flying with HSM-70 “Spartans” as a department head and served as the administrative officer, detachment officer in charge, and squadron maintenance officer.  She deployed onboard USS Hue City (CG 66) with Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 10. 

In 2018, Peterson reported to Alaskan Command (ALCOM) in Anchorage, Alaska as a joint action officer in the J-5 Plans and Policy Directorate where she planned, coordinated, and supported Homeland Defense and Defense Support of Civil Authorities for the ALCOM area of operations.  During her joint tour, she completed Air Force Air Command and Staff College Joint Professional Military Education Phase One.
