Command Master Chief
CMDCM (AW/SW) Jonathan M. Rivera


Command Master Chief (AW/SW) Jonathan M. Rivera is a native of Brooklyn, New York and was raised in Miami, Florida where he graduated from North Miami Senior High School in 1998.  He enlisted in the United States Navy in September of 1998.  Upon completion of Basic Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, he reported to the USS Supply (AOE 6) in Earle, New Jersey as an undesignated seaman and was designated as a Quartermaster.  During his time onboard, he qualified as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist and advanced to the rank of Third Class Petty Officer.
 
In July of 2001, he reported to the USS Enterprise (CVN 65) in Norfolk, Virginia.  While onboard the USS Enterprise he served as Quartermaster of the Watch and advanced to the rank of Second Class Petty Officer.  In March 2003, he reported to the USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) in Norfolk, Virginia.  While stationed onboard the USS Kearsarge, he served as navigation department’s leading petty officer, advanced to the rank of First Class Petty Officer and qualified as an Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist (EAWS). 
In March of 2005, he reported to the USS Kauffman (FFG 59) and served as the leading petty officer and acting leading chief petty officer.  In April of 2007, he reported to Center for Combat Systems Great Lakes, Illinois where he was assigned to Operations Specialist and Quartermaster “A” School as an instructor.  There, he qualified as a master training specialist and was selected to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. 
In January of 2010, he reported to USS Wasp (LHD 1) in Norfolk, Virginia where he served as navigation department’s leading chief petty officer, qualified Officer of the Deck (Underway) and was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer.   In February 2014, he reported to Afloat Training Group Norfolk at Naval Station Norfolk where he served as MOB-N leading chief petty officer and qualified as an Afloat Training Specialist.  
In May of 2017, he reported to Naval Station Norfolk (Port Operations) where he served as deperming division’s leading chief petty officer.  There he was advanced to master chief petty officer and served as departmental leading chief petty officer and senior enlisted advisor.  In December 2018, he reported to the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) in Norfolk, Virginia where he served as navigation department’s leading chief petty officer.


Rivera is currently serving as the command master chief at the “Sea Dragons” of Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron (HM) 12.  He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class # 179, Grey) and the Command Leadership CMC/COB Course in Newport, Rhode Island.
 
Rivera holds a Bachelor of Science in Religion - Biblical and Theological Studies Degree from Liberty University.  His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5) and various other unit and campaign awards.
