Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron (HM) 12
HM-12 Menu

The HELMINERON TWELVE (HM-12) squadron emblem features a steely eyed, fierce Sea Dragon set upon a deep blue luminous backdrop. In addition to the seas; the hues of blue represent excellence, courage, and commitment demonstrated by all men and women in the Airborne Mine Countermeasures (AMCM) community to ensure freedom of the seas. The gunmetal gray Sea Dragon symbolizes the venerable aircraft used for AMCM and heavy lift combat support operations, as well as the resolute nature of those who maintain and fly them.

The red lightning bolt gripped tightly by the Sea Dragon is emblematic of the AMCM community’s rapid-deployment posture and the advanced mine warfare weapon systems that enable aerial mine clearance operations across the globe. The downward pointed bolt is engaging an immobilized contact mine with seven chemical horns which signifies the seven seas of operational responsibility.

The red "LXXI" adorned on the emblem pays homage to the heritage of airborne mine warfare by prominently recognizing the year the Helicopter Mine Countermeasures (HM) community and the world famous HM-12 SEA DRAGONS were originally established on 1 April 1971.
